Gram Mooligai Company Limited (GMCL) is a public limited company with its shares held by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of gatherers of medicinal plants as well as small cultivators. The company was formed to provide an assured market support to the medicinal plant produce of the shareholders. The company got registered in January 2000. As of date the subscribed share of the company amounts to Rs 5.02 lakhs and Rs 4.95 lakhs is held by 30 SHGs. The representatives of these SHGs are already in the Board of Directors and have started playing a management role. The current turnover of the company is Rs. 67 lakhs (2003-04).

The GMCL:
Serves as an organized buisness platform for gatherers and small cultivators of medicinal plants to ensure fair share of the pie, thereby assuring income and employment to rural SHGs in the herbal sector.

Assures quality herbs to buyers at a fixed price as and when required.

Undertakes agro-technology, sustainable harvest studies and imparts training to SHGs.

Organises supply chain management

Makes cost-effective but efficacious branded formulations in collaboration with FRLHT to enhance credibility for ayurveda.
